Selisse Berry Dissects LGBT Inclusive Policies on Bloomberg BNA
This week, Out & Equal founder and CEO, Selisse Berry shared straightforward guidelines for cultivating LGBT inclusive workplaces in an interview with Caryn Freeman of Bloomberg BNA. Alongside Christopher Wilkinson, partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and former senior civil rights attorney for the Department of Labor, Selisse emphasized the importance of including sexual and gender identity in internal LGBT policies, creating LGBT employee resource groups (ERGs) and offering LGBT-specific diversity and sensitivity training to senior management and HR personnel. Selisse identified transgender and gender transitioning guidelines as the “next frontier” in LGBT workplace policies, such as Out & Equal’s Workplace Gender Identity and Transition Guidelines.
For corporations with international offices, Selisse recommended rolling out LGBT inclusive policies globally, as the LGBT rights climate varies country to country.
Selisse drove home the importance of including LGBT self-identification in a company’s internal diversity tracking system to send the message that all LGBT employees count.
